Description of the Bird

Four Pelicans flew over my home in Lakewood, CO this morning about 10:00. They were circling around. They were white with black on their wings. We do have some water around here, but we were very surprised to see them. I understand they have been seen in Alamosa and Boulder counties lately, but I wanted to report them anyway.
Behaviors: Circled around overhead for about ten minutes. Three stayed very close together, and one circled nearby, but not exactly right with the others.
Call: n/a
Plumage: White and black

Similar Species Discussion

My husband is from the Chesapeake Bay area, and he is used to seeing Grey Pelicans. These were definitely not grey. We were surprised to see them. We also have Great Blue Herons nearby (near the Federal Center in Lakewood), and these were not those. They looked exactly like the picture I'm attaching, though it is not the birds we saw today. I copied the pictures from ones taken in Alamosa that I found on the internet. It was apparently taken at the Blanca Wetlands in Alamosa on May 12, 2008, according to the website... http://flickr.com/photos/slv_co/2489818405/in/pool-sanluisvalley

Resources Used

I saw the picture in reference and another from http://www.schmoker.org/BirdPics/AWPE.html that showed pictures from all angles. Same bird.

Previous Experience

I'm not clear what this question is asking for... It was kind of exciting to see a bird we don't usually see around here.
