Description of the Bird

The first two birds I spotted were mixed in with Horned Larks at the intersection of CR124 and CR67.  They were feeding on the road with the larks and flying around.  The next larger group of Grey-crowned Rosy Finches that I spoted were approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mile further west on CR124 from CR67.  There were approximately 45-50 GC-RF's feeding on the road, ditches and then flying up to the powerlines as well as fencing.  Similar to horned larks the approach was about 20 yards of more before they would take flight.

Similar Species Discussion

I checked the bunting list and did not see any of the birds I witnessed.  I continued to search through Sibley's Birds West (March 2016 ed) and found the birds I had seen.  I also checked with my brother-in-law who is an ornithologist for confirmation.

Resources Used

I used Sibley Birds West (March 2016 ed) to ID the bird.

Previous Experience

This is the first time I have seen Grey-crowned Rosy Finches and it is a personal life lister.
