Description of the Bird
The bird was alternatively feeding on the ground and calling from trees, sign posts, and bushes.
Similar Species Discussion
Considered Gambel's Quail. Eliminated by the scalloped breast and belly.
Resources Used
Sibley's Birds, second edition. Am familiar with the species. I have seen it in a number of western states.
Previous Experience
I have seen it multiple times in several southwestern states.
