Description of the Bird
Originally reported on April 28 and May 3 by Lauren Avery. We relocated the bird on May 4 in the same general area as Lauren Avery. Phoebe with dark face, dark tail, slightly notched/forked tail, white throat and flanks, weak wingbars. Back lighter color than head and tail. Tail wagged downward. Heard call. Photos and audio recording attached.
Similar Species Discussion
Black Phoebe was eliminated due to the bird having a while colored throut, lighter colored breast, and head was not as extensively dark as Black Phoebe.
Resources Used
Used various field guides. Compared audio recordings and photos from Cornell's MacCaulay library. Consulted with a local birder (Ryan Votta) who is familiar with the scpecies.
Previous Experience
This is our first sighting of an Eastern Phoebe. Regularly see Black Phoebes in the area during spring, summer, and fall.
