Description of the Bird
Around the start of January I wrote in my description "This little guy has been hanging around our house for around a month now. He took a little while to id but the yellow beak and the orange stripes and the grayish cap gave it away. If you want to see him please come by." After this lots of birders came and I enjoyed learning from them since I had only been birding for a bit at that time. It was recorded in City Park once after only a couple of days after I last saw it.
Similar Species Discussion
Song Sparrow was considered but bright red coloration eleminated it. Lincolns and Swamp were also considered but with the birght coloration with the bi-colored bill and the streaking on chest I was able to figure it out.
Previous Experience
I am still shocked that I was able to identify it since it was one of the only sparrows at the time I even knew existed. When I started birding I watched the youtube channel "Badgerland Birding" and watched a video where they were trying to find a Fox Sparrow. It was really my true spark bird since it intruduced me to the birding community.
