Description of the Bird

1 Eastern Bluebird flying over creek bed, landing on top branch of willow tree, singing off and on for 10 minutes.  Merlin recognized song as Eastern Bluebird. Observers notice white belly with rufous chest and sides. Back was mostly blue. Absence of rusty scapulars.

Similar Species Discussion

Western Bluebird was considered, but the call was not indicative of a Western Bluebird.  There was no visible rusty color on scapular.  It was a single bird.  No other bluebirds were seen or heard.

Previous Experience

First time I have seen an Eastern Bluebird in this area.
