Description of the Bird

Several very large male grouse displaying. Large white collar ruff and yellow sacs identify them as Sage-Grouse. The much denser and longer filoplumes at the back of the head identify them as Gunnison Sage-Grouse and not Greater Sage-Grouse. Two females approached the lek towards the end of viewing, but didn't seem too interested.

Similar Species Discussion

Greater Sage-Grouse eliminated by the denser and longer filoplumes.  All other Colorado grouse eliminated by the very large size.

Previous Experience

First time seeing this species, but had seen Greater Sage-Grouse twice before.
