Habitat
First seen on NW shore of Boulder Res, and later in a tree to the west of the reservoir.
Viewing Conditions
Optics:
10x binocs.
Distance:
40 yards when in the tree, further when on the shore.
Light:
A bit cloudy, but good light.
Description of the Bird
All black body with gray skin on the head. Lighter short bill and legs. Bit smaller and more upright than the 2 Turkey Vultures that were with it on the shore of Boulder Res. White outer primaries seen well when in flight. Different flight pattern than Turkey Vulture with a few rapid flaps and then a glide.
Similar Species Discussion
Turkey Vulture eliminated by head color, short bill, more upright stance, white in outer primaries and flight pattern.
Previous Experience
Have seen a very large number of Black and Turkey Vultures.
