Description of the Bird
Single bird seen walking on shoreline of Cherry Creek reservoir, in flight a few short times, then walking more. Black legs and black beak. Seen next to kildeer and was slightly smaller. Long beak. Dull brown plumage on back and white plumage on breast. No significant patterning on back or spotting on breast, consistent color, particularly noticeable in flight.

Were considering solitary sandpiper (eliminated due to black legs and lack of spots), baird's sandpiper (beak was longer, lack of patterning on back),
Previous Experience
This was my first sighting of Dunlin. Confirmed by checking other ebird reports of this species at Cheery Creek State Park. Was with group led by Denver Audubon and other birders in group generally agreed on my determination. I have been a birder for 10 years but this past Fall migration through the Denver Audubon Master Birder class have been studying shorebirds in particular. I am likely at an intermediate level with shorebirds.
