Description of the Bird
The photos pretty much speak for themselves. This bird was in pretty typical plumage for inshore, late spring/summer BL Kittiwakes that occur in WA. Bird 2 is being submitted separately. I believe that the bird found by Cole Wild, and first seen by me on 16 April, was the same individual I last saw on 26 May 2011. The second bird seems to have been a one-day wonder.
Behaviors: Mostly swimming, or perched on pier. Occasionally soaring. When eagles flew over, tended to head nw, only to return 15 or so minutes later. Never seen feeding by me.
Call: None Heard
Plumage: 1st cycle
Similar Species Discussion
Nothing has M back pattern, larger than FRGU, yellow bill, black feet, dusky nape collar.
Previous Experience
I've seen thousands over the years
