Habitat

In a plains cottonwood on riparian Big Dry Creek

Viewing Conditions

Optics:  Celestron Granite bins

Description of the Bird

Large headed and big conicle-billed,silvery bill, black hood and back, crimson bib, white tummy, white spots on primaries. Singing much like a black headed grosbeak, but less fluted.

Similar Species Discussion

Nothing else in Colorado looks like an adult male rose-breasted grosbeak.

I have seen this bird in Minnesota many times Sibleys and Stokes.

Previous Experience

I am quite familiar with both genders of black-headed and blue grosbeaks in Colorado and their songs.
