Description of the Bird
Lisa Edwards and I went to a bridge in Walsenburg, where Mark Peterson had found a Black Phoebe a few days before. We heard the bird calling first, and then saw a flycatcher, with black head, throat, and chest, and clear white belly and under tail, and black bill. See photo. This seems to be on the review list for Huerfano County. Other people have seen this species in the County before, though I guess they didn't document those sightings, so this might be a new species for this county.
Similar Species Discussion
Eastern Phoebe - doesn't have black head, throat, and chest.
Slate-colored Junco - has pink bill, not black, and is smaller.
Seen many of these in CO around Pueblo mostly, also Fremont County, and other places. This is my first for Huerfano County.
