Description of the Bird

Robin sized bird with rufous/reddish back and heavily streaked under parts, dark brown on light buff. The long tail was the same color as the back. Undertail coverts, white and unstreaked. The eye was yellow. The bill was long and slightly decurved.
We did hear it give a warning call when a predator was spotted. The bird fed on the ground scratching about then would climb on the feeders to eat. It would run off all other birds.

Resources Used

We look at several resources to comfirm field marks. We also checked on records for Brown Thrasher in western Colorado as well as San Miguel County. Because this species, a first record to San Miguel County, having few western Colorado records, we felt it appropiate to write up a report for the records committee.

Previous Experience

Myself and Brenda have birded for many years and there are few birds we have not had experience with that occur in the Americas. Both the similar in appearance Brown Thrasher and Long-billed Thrasher have been encountered on numerous occasions. I grow up with Brown Thrashers in Nebraska.
